For the health of the players.

The official reason is the reason and there is no other reason and anyone suggesting there is another reason should be aware that FIFA takes the health and wellbeing of its players extremely seriously and has done so consistently throughout its entirely uncontroversial history.

The breaks last approximately ninety seconds.

Coincidentally, the standard length of a television advertisement is approximately thirty seconds.

Three of them fit quite neatly into ninety seconds.

The players are very hydrated.
